ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #639

Part two of "Lightning Strikes" finds Superman facing off against an Eclipso-possessed civilian who just happens to be at the controls of one of Lex Luthor's Anti-Superman Armor. With the Man of Steel's strength and will sapped, Eclipso closes in on the ultimate goal---possessing Superman himself! Written by Judd Winick, with art by Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund, this three-part series is easily one of the best Superman stories of the past year, and a guest role from Captain Marvel only serves as icing on the cake.

OTHERWORLD #2 cover

OTHERWORLD #2

Things may seem a little confusing at first as part two opens in Phil Jimenez's "fantasy-meets-reality" maxiseries. No worries, though, because the characters are just as confused as readers might be, and it's all really quite simple. Siobhan Moynihan and a group of other young adults are imbued with superpowers in order to save the universe from a dire threat. The only problem is they've just been given these powers and the enemy is already upon them. Will they rise to the challenge or make this maxiseries a very short mini? Phil Jimenez and inker Andy Lanning have an answer to that.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #5

In a flashback to wintry Russia circa 1942, Captain America recounts a tale of his time with the Invaders. In telling the tale, though, will it provide answers to the mystery of Red Skull's death, and is Captain America's memory even reliable? He plans to find out, as the pieces of the puzzle come together at last in this penultimate chapter, written as always by Ed Brubaker with art by the ever-talented Michael Lark.

SOLO #4 cover

SOLO #4

Howard Chaykin has quickly become one of the busiest men in comics this past year, with such great hit series as "Bite Club" and "Challengers of the Unknown". Now comes his appearance in the pages of "Solo" DC's anthology series which features a different comics creator every issue, allowed to present whatever stories he chooses. Whether it's a World War era tale like "The Last Time I Saw Paris", sci-fi creepiness such as "Upgrades", or the autobiographical "Horrors!", Chaykin proves once again why he is truly one of the master of comics art. Writer, artist, genius---no joke.
