Celebrate National Free Comic Book Day at Zeus Toys and Comics on Saturday July 3rd!

Dallas, Texas, June 16, 2004 - Zeus Toys and Comics celebrates free comic book day with national comic creators, comic media and lots of free comics! Artists and comic aficionados will be on hand from 11am-4pm at Zeus on July 3rd, 2004. Free comics will be available to everyone and given out while supplies last.

Capitalizing on the release of the new Spider-Man 2 movie, FCBD (Free Comic Book Day) provides an outlet for the excitement surrounding Spider-Man and other comic-themed movies. Free comic book day is a combined national promotion created by comic publishers like DC and Marvel and local comic shops like Zeus Toys and Comics to attract new readers. The original concept was designed to do two things, firstly it encourages children who may not normally read to pick up a book and get involved in the good habit of reading and secondly, it re-invigorates long-time comic fans to check out new titles.

Some of the free comic titles offered this year include Spider-Man, Star Wars Clone Adventures, Teen Titans GO, Archie, Duel Masters, and Mickey Mouse. In addition to the titles offered by FCBD, Zeus is generously offering up even more comics! Titles include Batman Gotham Adventures, Daredevil, and Superman (while supplies last).

Local comic creators with national distribution will be on hand for the event. Some of the folks already signed for the event include: Scott Kurtz of the wildly popular comic PVP and the daily web comic PVP Online, Myles Gunter, writer of Image's NYC Mech, Jeff Amano and Gabriel Benson, creators and writers for Beckett Comics, Jessie Garza and Greg Gatlin of Viper Comics known for their huge hit Dead@17, Tom Martin of Some Big Lumberjack, and the awesome crew at Ghostwerks Comics.

In addition to comic artists, Fanboy Radio will be at Zeus to promote their online comic book radio show (fanboyradio.com). Cason Pilliod of Inanimate Objects will showcase his custom action figure creations. Plus, Herorealm.com will be at Zeus to promote their national comic news site with a few giveaways. More guests will be announced closer to the event.

PVP: Player Vs. PlayerScott Kurtz’s PVP Online has been running daily for over 5 years at http://www.pvponline.com. Publisher Image Comics recently started collecting his online strip in a more traditional comic format. The PVP comic has quickly become one of Image’s hottest national sellers.

Dallas based Viper Comics scored a huge comic hit with their series Dead@17 just last year. This year they’ve returned with a second Dead@17 series and the upcoming Daisy Kutter. Viper Comics president Jessie Garza and production manager Greg Gatlin will be on hand to talk about Viper’s amazing work.

NYC MechFreelance writer Myles Gunter's made his mark with several national publishers. With published works by DC Comics, Dark Horse and Image, he's currently on comic stand with his new on-going Image title NYC Mech.

Ghostwerks ComicsGhostwerks Comics started with 5 students from University of North Texas, and now reaches a national audience with three published comics. Their super-hero themed comics have an urban feel and reach an all ages audience not met by traditional comics.

Beckett Publications known for the popular Dragonball Z and YuGiOh Magazines started their own comic imprint just a couple of years ago. Jeff Amano, writer and creator of the Ruule comic and Gabriel Benson writer of Fade from Grace and the Ballad of Sleeping Beauty will be at Zeus promoting Beckett Comics for FCBD. There will be limited number of the Ballad of Sleeping Beauty #1 for them to sign.

Inanimate ObjectsFanboy Radio started out of Texas Christian University on the KTCU airwaves at FM 88.7.
